Update #3 (10/1/11): these apps have expired…for now!
Update #2 (3/25/11): the applications for this Visa and this Business Visa are still working even though they are past their expiration date. They are for 75,000 miles with $1,500 in spending. You can also call 800-408-4311 to register for this promotion over the phone.
Update: the 100k with $10k offer below expired on 10/31/10 but thanks to loyal reader Andy we have updated applications - Business Visa, Personal Visa or Personal Amex - for 75,000 miles bonuses with $4,000 in spending within 6 months. These are marked as being valid through 2/28/11, but reportedly still work.
How does 5 free domestic flights on American Airlines sound? Or 1 free international flight in business class?
Right now, Citi and American Airlines are offering the most lucrative credit card signup bonuses yet: the Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage Visa Signature Card or Amex Card nets you 50,000 miles when you spend $750 in your first 4 months and another 50,000 if you spend $10,000 in the first 12 months. The same goes for the CitiBusiness AAdvantage Visa Card if you are able to apply as a small business owner or sole proprietor.
If $10,000 minimum spend is too high, consider the Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage Visa Signature Card or Amex which give you 75,000 miles when you spend $1,500 in the first 6 months. The same goes for the CitiBusiness AAdvantage Visa.
There is the potential to apply for both personal and business for you and a spouse or signficant other and earn up to 400,000 free American miles!

What are these miles worth? 100,000 miles can be redeemed for 5 free domestic roundtrip tickets at 17,500 per award using reduced mileage awards for Citi AA cardholders, 4 free domestic roundtrip tickets using American’s MileSAAver award tickets, 2 domestic first class roundtrip tickets or 1 free roundtrip business class ticket to Europe, Japan or South America. These business class tickets can run from $3,000 to $10,000 so if used correctly you can realize up to $10,000 in value! See American’s Mileage Chart for full details. Miles can also be redeemed on American’s OneWorld Alliance Partners, including Cathay Pacific, British Air, Qantas and more.
There’s no annual fee for the first year and the cards can be cancelled prior to that and you get to keep your miles.
Unofficially, these miles count towards lifetime elite status. Their Lifetime AAdvantage Gold is conferred after just 1 million miles earned from any source. Remember, with this promotion you could potentially be 30% of the way there this year without even flying! Gold status gives you complimentary upgrades on booked flights for you and a companion, you accumulate miles at a 25% higher rate, priority check-in, and on and on. The benefits are even better for Platinum (2 million miles).
Caveats: you’ll likely need a 720 or higher credit score to get approved (buy your credit score & report for $11.96 after code FICO25 here). As always, read all the full fine print. If you don’t have a very high credit score there are ways to improve it but that’s another post entirely!
Update: yes, there is no visual indicator of the offers on the signup pages but these links were pulled from an email outlining the offers.

Is the 100,000 AA Advantage/Citibank offer still available?
Is there a phone number to call for the deal?
thanks

mike, thanks for the additional link – nice to have one with a visual indicator!
Is the Visa card offering 100.000 miles on american still available?
Hi Wendy, the 100k is gone but there are 3 links up top to apps with 75k bonuses. Here’s the personal:
https://www.accountonline.com/cards/acq/Apply.do?promocode=fly4&ProspectID=CDAD2EDF20D94BF4AF2D71E6E3251249&app=UNSOL&sc=4XK4I8W0&m=XUSMZT3WNNW&langId=EN&siteId=CB&B=S
Do you know if these links still work for the 75,000 miles? I’m wanting to fill out the application, but it doesn’t say how many miles one receives for doing so.
Thanks.
Hi Zach, yes, they should be fine. It’s a little odd but it has been that way the entire time but has worked for me and others here.
As of November, I applied for the Citibank Advantage Visa, charged $10K in business expenses, and have already been awarded the 100K miles. Although I was already a Citibank Advantage card holder prior to applying for the new card, that was never an issue.
David, great feedback, thanks. I’ve heard of others who have had similar experiences.
Is this card still available now as of dec 23rd?
Hi Daniel, the 100k is gone but there are 3 links up top to apps with 75k bonuses. Here’s the personal: https://www.accountonline.com/cards/acq/Apply.do?promocode=fly4&ProspectID=CDAD2EDF20D94BF4AF2D71E6E3251249&app=UNSOL&sc=4XK4I8W0&m=XUSMZT3WNNW&langId=EN&siteId=CB&B=S
With the three 75k links, can you apply for the business card if you already have a citi aadvantage account, or are they all for new accounts only?
Mason, yes – if you already have personal you can apply for business. Actually, many others have had success applying again for personal, as well, but that is far from guaranteed.
Wow that was odd. I just wrote an extremely long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t show up. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again. Anyways, just wanted to say superb blog!
Sorry that happened! Thank you, though!
Is everyone receiving a generic on-line application which doesn’t mention this particular program on it? Is this offer still good?
Yes, we’re all seeing the same thing. It’s a little odd but it has been that way the entire time and has worked for me and others here.
and the 100,000 offer is still available, or just the 75K?
Thanks so much for this.
Just the 75k but the threshold is lowered from $10k spend to $4k spend.
Brad – get this. I received the Citibank Amex card. After spending the required $4000, Citibank only posted 50K miles on my account. When I called they said they had me down for the 50,000 miles enrollment and they are investigating. Do you how I can acquire some back up to show themI enrolled in the 75K program? Weird, huh?
How do you know if they will really give you those miles?
Also is it 1500 or 4000 in the first 6 months?
Well, at this point I know personally because they’ve worked for me. Others here have said the same. Prior to that, we knew because the links came from Citi marketing emails that detailed the offer, even though the landing page does not. As odd as that is, it is somewhat normal for Citi to not detail the American bonus on the app.
The 75k is with $4k spend.
It’s March 4th so the 75k offer is definitely over? I can’t believe I just missed this. I’m going to be doing a RTW trip later this year, it would have came in handy.
Does anyone know if the 75k offer still works with that generic application? Also, does anyone know what happens if you get a card with an annual fee waived in the first year, you get the miles, and then cancel it…do they charge you the annual fee? Thanks.
See the links in the “updated” section at the top. They do still for 75,000 miles on $1,500 in spending.
No, you are free to cancel any time prior to 12 months and you won’t get charged the fee.
You can also call and threaten to cancel unless they credit you the fee or give you add’l miles.
Hi Brad,
I tried calling the number listed in your update from 3/25/11 (yesterday), to take advantage of the 75k miles for $1,500 promo. I got a recording telling me it was no longer valid. Do you know if I would still be able to get it through the link from your update?
Also, I received a mailer from AAdvantage telling me about a 50k for $4,000 dollar promo. I can use that if there is nothing better out there, but obviously I’d prefer the 75k one
.
Thanks,
-James
Did you find out?
My husband applied for 2 AA cards within a week gap. However even with a 800+ credit score he got rejected for the second card (amex) because he was already approved for one (visa). Is there a way to apply for a second AA card after a few months gap? Or if we cancel our first card, will we be approved for the second card?
diana, you can’t get two personal within the same 60 days but you can get one personal and one business at the same time.
We dont own a business. So cant apply for one. Do you think we can safely apply for a second aa card after 4 months gap?
I just called and was told that the CitiBusiness AAdvantage Visa Card will only give me 30,000 miles if I spend $750 within 4 months. Not great. Do you know where we can get the 75K 05 50K miles?
Re; your listed phone # 1 800 408-4311 gets u to a recored message that promotion is no longer available. Further your link to get your credit score for $11 bucks or so is no longer valid, (or working)
I called the phone number as well and got the prerecorded message. Is this offer still valid through the links above? How do you know if you will recieve the 75,000?
