Update: Congratulations to Denise L. from O’Fallon, MO for winning the Wish List Giveaway! Thanks to all those that participated, and we wish you all a Happy Holiday.

Everyone knows someone who could use a little help this holiday season.  With 1 out of 6 workers over the age of 16 BradsDeals Wish List Giveawaycurrently either unemployed or underemployed, the 2010 season of giving is going to be a tough one for a lot of people.

BradsDeals has helped millions of people get through hard economic times by providing thousands of online shopping deals, coupon codes and in-store printable coupons to cash-strapped shoppers.  This year, we’re going one step further.  With our Wish List Giveaway, one lucky BradsDeals shopper is going to get the deal of a lifetime!

Our Giveaway is an opportunity to get your entire holiday wish list paid for, courtesy of the incredible team at BradsDeals.  The contest is open to all qualifying participants who feel that they – or someone they know – could use a little help this holiday shopping season.

You can enter this contest in 2 ways:

1. Upload a video to Facebook.com/BradsDeals telling us why you or someone you know deserves a break this year plus, of course, your entire holiday wish list.  Note: click on “Video” near “Attach” in the “Write Something” box.

2. Email your story and entire wish list to wishlist@bradsdeals.com.

The value of the award is limited to $2,500 and the deadline for submissions is 11:59pm CST 12/15.  The BradsDeals team will choose the winner, who will then get everything on their holiday wish list to be awarded by Christmas Day!

Also, we will be doing a second smaller contest. Each week, we will grab one Holiday Wish List and identify how to get the best deals on every item. Anyone whose list is chosen will win a $50 Amazon gift certificate plus be shown how to score the best deals possible on all of their items.

You can enter the “small contest” by either uploading a video or just a text list to Facebook.com/BradsDeals.

Update: an important point was raised: what if you don’t have anything that can record video? Yes, this was a concern. Some thoughts:

1) Remember that many cell phones, laptops and digital cameras can record video these days – hopefully at least someone you know has one;

2) if not, Google has many resources on how to create a video online without a camera.

3) We have now added the option to submit your entry by email: wishlist@bradsdeals.com.  We want to make it easy for everyone to enter and we want to hear your stories.  So, no video, no worries!

    Hey Bradsdeals,
I have really used you this year I would like to add my husband Jimmey and myself to the contest. My husband ( age 63) had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, now is in chemo, Ive yet been able to go Christmas shopping. I’m now unemployed so I can help drive him to his chemo visits and take care of him. I hate to think his time is limited but we will see what the scan reveals the middle of Dec. We buried his mother in April of 2010 and him being diagnosed in Aug and started his Chemo in Sept. Not so sure our holidays will be so bright this year not to mention our 32 anniversary on Dec. 16.

My daughter is 18, she graduated h.s. early so she could go to a tech. college and help me take care of my needs. I am disabled and have no job right now. all I wanted to do is get her a laptop for school, she will be going to ccd come spring, and so when she graduates tech. school on dec.23, 2010, she can keep track of all of her wk. appt too. I dont need a big list of things just the one thing for Ashia. By the way, i did have someone who was going to help me pay for it,her boyfriend, but they broke up this morning. I would love to be all cheery and festive, but the truth is, we dont even have money for Christmas dinner., Thanks brad!!

  4. cristina jones says:

oh and I don’t have anyway to video, or text you this for the contest, so I hope this will be sufficient.

  5. James Smith says:

Both of my girls have moved out last month, I lost my job. one of my daughters is going to be fine, but the other one is in need as a single mother of one three year old.I would love to get her a computer.to do job searches and keep in contact with family and friends but do to mt circumstances. I will not be able to do much this year except have a nice holiday dinner for them.

  6. Terri Sinclair says:

My husband and I both lost our jobs. I was assaulted in an attempted robbery and my husband was laid off the week before Christmas and we just found out will NOT get unemployment (California, no money). We literally have NO income. None. We have no medical insurance and soon our house will be in foreclosure. The worst part is my children are older but we are raising a 13 year old nephew and 16 year old niece. We have had them for 7 years and have yet to be able to afford to give them a real Christmas – well, or “any” Christmas. Just provide the basics for them. I want nothing for myself or my husband. But, I would like something, even just one thing each for the kids.

Katie is a straight A honor student. She’s beautiful, a Christian girl and a cheerleader. Dylan loves music. Classic rock, R and B and Blues – which is good for a 13 year old! We are blessed. We all know that. I am not complaining for I know we have more than many people – I know these two kids don’t expect anything for Christmas. We’ve already told them not to. They don’t complain or whine.

We wouldn’t even have had Thanksgiving except a local church came by with a box of food. We will not be having a fancy holiday dinner but we will have spaghetti and we will be together.

Thank you and God Bless everyone in need. Hopefully next year will be better.

  7. Terri Sinclair says:

Oh and sorry but I have no way to video. My computer is old and used by four of us! My father died last year and my step father died on Christmas day so we took their old computers and “created” a new one! Pretty clever huh? But, no video capabilites!

  9. Kelly says:

    Hi Bradsdeals,

My story really doesnt compare to the others. After reading the other stories and their struggles with health and family I feel silly but I do have a “story” that affected me. MMhhh, where do i begin?? First, My husband lost his job 3 years ago during that time I was diagnosed with a nerve disorder in my foot. I also have severe back problems that sometimes incapacitate me. Well, the problem with that is I am a full time flight attendant. I have been working so much with pain and all just to make ends meet. Well, last Dec. it overwhelmed me the endless bill collectors, my medical bills, and being exhausted mentally from flying. I tried to commit suicide last year and was revived by husband. I spent 5 days in a mental hospital. I didnt even know I was depressed or that mental illness ran in my family. I am now on medicine and feeling better but we have been hit again with more financial woes. My husband once again lost a job he got 8 months ago and I am once again overwhelmed with finances. My husbands car was just repossessed and I am doing my best flying high time. I just cant afford to put one penney into Christmas. I am just trying to keep it together. I dont really have a wish list because I just wish we could be healthy(physically and mentally), financially stable, and have a NEW 2011. But, if I was to wish for anything materialistic. I would wish for a new small laptop. My asus that I have had for 4 years is dying and I need it for work. I would love for my husband to have a Lowes gift certificate so we can fix up our house so we can sell it. We cant afford it!!! It needs major repairs! Thank you so much!!

  10. Kelly says:

I am sorry I cannot leave a video. I really would prefer if my airline doesnt know about my hospitalization last year so I am trying to be anonymous.

    Thank you, Kelly

  11. Joan Buchanan says:

A contest of fulfilling a wishlist for a struggling family is very nice, although the requirement for a “video” is not. You are asking someone to put their struggles, feelings, expressions, pain, etc. and load it onto the internet for viewing. Written submissions would be both advantageous to those that are not lucky enough to have access to video as well as those that don’t have the technologic skill for video. People are loosing their retirements, homes, jobs, hope and self-respect, yet Brads Deals (a site I love) would require them to make a movie about. I think its thoughtless, heartless, ill-conceived and lacks a true understanding of what is going on in today’s economic climate.

    • Brad says:

Hi Joan, it’s a bit belated but wanted to thank you for your comment. I read this at the time but did not reply. You – and others – were right and that is why we changed the contest to allow for private submissions.

The original point of doing a video was as a deterrent and to ensure the best person won but I failed to see there was an obvious, understandable negative about asking for videos.

Fortunately, it still worked out well and a deserving winner was chosen.

  12. Carl says:

    xmas to all

  13. Laurie says:

Hey, I was gonna sign up for this wish list idea, ’cause who dosen’t have things they want or need and who couldn’t use a little extra help over the Holidays.

However, after reading through these stories, there is no way I could sign up for this. We are very blessed, and able to provide what is needed and most of what is wanted for our kids. I do think that Terri Sinclair sounds like she NEEDS this!!! To raise your own children, then raise your neice and nephew is in itself an awesome thing to do. But to raise those children to know that being together and having a family is more important then having gifts is amazing.

Terri, my heart goes out to you and yours. For what it’s worth, your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Keeping my fingers crossed that your family wins and has the Christmas they deserve!

  14. Janet says:

It’s a shame this contest is for those who can concoct the biggest hard-luck story. Scammers come out of the closet for contests like these. If Brads Deals is truly looking to help someone, they need look no further than the shelters/halfway houses/soup kitchens/etc. within their own community. There they will find people who truly are in need.

  15. adam says:

these guys have problems which are out of proportion to mine. so, I will nominate one of these and no more wishlist from me.cancel.. absolutely cancelled..What! did I cancel a wishlist that never existed…??

    Not again

  16. Carl says:

    best wishes

  17. Eileen says:

I would like to suggest my sister and her daughter as strong candidates for your generosity this holiday season.

Unfortunately, my sister had to have a pacemaker put in for a heart condition a couple of years ago. Soon after she started having trouble in her job with processing and retaining information. Tests, through a neurologist, showed that she had had stroke(s); which is why she is having short-term memory problems. Currently she is out of work, due to the stroke, and fighting with the insurance company to try and get long-term disability.

My niece has not had much as even before my sister’s medical/job issues, due to her deadbeat dad. He has never financially or emotionally supported her. She has always felt abandoned and unloved by her dad and is under psychiatric care and on medication due to this issue, which is another expense.

My sister was always doing the best she could financially as an administrative assistant; but now with no income there is nothing there for them and she has no idea what the future will be.

My wish for my niece is for her to have a bedroom makeover. She is 16 years old and has never had her own bedroom set. I have three children so she gets a lot of my children’s hand-me downs, or whatever people give her. She is currently sleeping on a mattress on the floor and it’s old and tattered. At the very least, she really, really needs a bed and new mattress.

If you choose her and the bedroom set does not incur your entire prize, I would love to see my sister also get a new bed as hers is over 25 years old, and was her ex-husband’s! Sadly, her birthday is Christmas Day, so that day just becomes even more depressing for her when she can’t give her daughter nice things.

I was very excited to see that you were having this wishlist giveaway as I would love to see my niece and my sister smile and be happy and excited about something again, especially at this time of year, being both Christmas and her birthday.

Thank you and I wish everyone Happy Holidays!

The link to the official rules specifies that winners are chosen at random, yet in your article here it says that the BradsDeals team will choose the winner. Will the winners be random or judged?

  19. Debbie Howell says:

I did enter the contest telling my story about my daughter who is a 32 year old beauty suffering with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, non vocal, speaking only with a head operating communication device. I also mentioned that I am an RN now on total disability and that my 83 year old mom is now very, very ill and I am caring for both of them when I can barely care for myself. Disability barely covers the cost of groceries each week. All I really wanted was a nice holiday mean, a few soft, warm blankets for my mom and my daughter’s bed, a cheap washing machine, if possible a lap top for the family.
This is to the gentleman who thinks PEOPLE MAKE THINGS UP. Who would make this up. I am sure there are many ways to “check stories out” via social agencies.
In a world of cynicism, let there be a positive optimistic spirit. Life can deal all of us many crosses to bear, and I see that many people have many crosses, I simply wanted to make this Christmas special for my children and my Mom since it may be her last. She has given me so much and I have so little to give her other than the love of a daughter.

  20. Rebecca says:

Merry Christmas to all…. my heart goes out to each and everyone of you that are struggling. My intent was to add a wishlist request when I logged on, but after reading all of the entries I just can’t do it! The wishlist was not for me or mine as we are blessed with so much but for a local charity that is struggling to help the 420 individuals on their listing this year. We are providing 140 lbs of food per family, with a minimum of three wish list toys to all individuals. Our greatest need is electronics for the older teens on our listing, we do not have the financial means to buy ipods, mp3 players and such. But every year we make it all work with help from above. So at this time my wish is that Bradslist could help each and everyone of you, or that you were local where the Children’s Resource Foundation in Texas could help you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!! :-)

  21. Annette says:

May God bless each and everyone of you. I don’t have a wishlist and would not if I did have one post it. You never know how good you have it until you read and listen with your heart to how someone else’s problems surpasses your own. I pray and wish Brad Deals could and would grant you all your wishlist. I know that would be simply impossible. I pray each and everyone of you and your famlies have a Healthy,Prosperous,Safe and Joyous Christmas and New Year. Stay BLESSED

My wish is for my family i was diagnosed with bone disease i have no income my unemployment ran out and I wish i had something for my family they have gave me support and love but i still take one day at a time that is all I can do now

  23. Jan says:

I wasn’t sure I should do this because it can be pretty depressing to lay it all out…but here goes. I was laid off more than a year ago and CANNOT find work. My only income is child support now and what savings I have. I have a 15 year old son who I have sole custody of. My fiance died in early spring this year (we knew the diagnosis was not good but I didn’t know how bad things really were)and it has hit me really hard. I just got a mammogram (free) and now they want an ultrasound cuz there is something suspicious. I have no insurance and I am scared to death that I won’t be able to afford care if it is cancer. I didn’t want to get these results this near Christmas but the free mammograms were so popular in October, the soonest I could get one was December. I have to stop this downward spiral but I just can’t get thsi bad stuff to stop. I am so scared I will be homeless. I would love to have some Sears clothes for my son and groceries from Jewel or Ultra. Fifteen year olds never stop eating or growing. Thank you.

  24. Carl says:

    merry Xmas

  25. Albert says:

did you announce the winner yet?

  26. tina says:

Congrats Denise! Don’t know what your entry was, but hope u & ur fam have a great holiday season.

While shopping for a laptop online this morning, I went to Shop NBC. I had shopped there before and decided to give them a look. Sure enough after searching through NBC’s site I found a laptop. I went through NBC’s (SECURE) check out steps, never leaving their site. I get to NBC’s check out, and to the right of the page, they have a Sony VAIO 15.5 laptop priced for $257.00! Wow, I am jumping on this deal. I click on the laptop, still on their “SECURE SITE” but now the page has taken me to a higher, much higher price! It is $895.87. MISLEADING you think? I call customer service, only to be laughed at, and told they were out of stock although if you wanted the exact same laptop they had some for $895.87! I went back to their website sure enough the laptop is STILL listed for $257.00 and not sold out, either. Then I “chatted” with them online. NBC verified the price for $257.00 on one page. She went to the site and confirmed, that is what they have it priced as but, when you actually go to purchase it, the laptop sells for $895.87. She stated they have a system glitch causing two different prices but if, you want it, you have to pay the higher price! Something wrong here? I guess NBC doesn’t have to state the EXACT price. I find it very difficult to trust their shopping network when they can’t even get their own SECURED WEBSITE pricing accurate!
Luckily, I saved the website page with the $257.00 price, and the complete chat session confirming that they have the laptop advertised for $257.00 and that it is their error but, they will not honor the lower price or even seem to care!
    Something wrong here?
