After Miley Cyrus’ VMA performance and Kris and Bruce Jenner calling it quits, I didn’t think anything could surprise me anymore. That is, until the iPhone 5c became available for $45 at Walmart.
Previous iPhones have retailed into the $500 range, so when Apple came out with this more affordable (and arguably prettier) option last month, the usual frenzy of Apple-loyals ensued. The 5c starts at $99 for the 16GB and a two year contract, and $199 for the 32GB with 2 year contract.
As someone who has destroyed every phone she’s ever owned—I once shattered a military-grade cell phone in the store parking lot, 5 minutes after buying it—I forbid myself from buying the newest, most expensive models. Because of that rule, I never thought I could be an iPhone owner again. But now, I’m forced to reconsider. Best Buy, Radio Shack, and Walmart have stepped up and sunk prices as low as $45.
All three retailers offer similar deals—you must sign a two year contract with your service provider, and you are given a gift card which you can apply immediately to the purchase of the iPhone. Best Buy had a deal going on through October 7th which brought the 5c from its original price of $99.99 to 49.99 with a $50 gift card used instantly.
While that deal is no longer available, Radio Shack is offering a $50 gift card to use on the 16GB through November 2nd when you sign a two year contract. But, the best deal we’ve seen yet, at Walmart, brings the already low original price of $79 for the 16GB, down to $45 with a $30 gift card. Plus, the company promises their supply will last through the holidays. If that doesn’t beat out Miley, the Jenners, and turn this military-grade cell phone user into an iPhone convert, I don’t know what will.
