A Bargainer's Spring Break Part 2: 4 Tips Once You're There

You're on vacation! Congratulations! We're officially jealous. Now that you're blissfully basking in the glory of your trip, let's make sure the planning isn't the only place you save money.

Get the Most Out of Your Transportation

Chicago L Train

The Cheapest Way to Travel: Public Transportation!

If you're going to a major city with adequate public transportation, try and get around this way. It's always your cheapest option and many cities have ways to save even more. For example, in Chicago you can buy a 1, 3, or 7 day unlimited pass for the train and bus for one price that more than pays for itself in a couple of rides. Check out the city's transportation website before or when you arrive.

Maybe the most economical and easy option, especially if you're traveling in a group, is to rent a car. Renting a car doesn't have to be expensive, but do keep in mind that gas and parking can add up and there is often an age minimum. Save more with these rental car deals:

Up to 30% Off Avis Car Rentals
Enterprise: Car Rentals From $10/Day
7% Off Thrifty Car Rental

Flaunt Your Student Status...Again!

Did you check our student discount list? Being a student can get you tons of discounts, no matter where you are. If you're spending your spring break as a tourist in a new city or in your home town catching movies at the local theater, always ask if there is a student discount available and bring your valid ID.

Save on Great Meals with Coupons

A great trip often includes expensive and delicious meals out, but there are lots of ways to make eating on your trip less of a financial burden. Remember when we told you about the 2012 Entertainment Book for $18 Shipped yesterday? It won't only get you a cheaper flight. This valuable coupon book contains coupons for popular fast food joints, Omaha Steaks, and many more national restaurants.

If you know where you're headed for vacation, why not start looking ahead at the Groupon or Living Social deals for that city? You can probably snag a deal for a great restaurant before you even get there. If you don't want to buy anything ahead, check out Scoutmob online or through their app, which shows great dining deals that you don't have to purchase ahead of time. Same goes with Foursquare. Some restaurants offer discounts or specials just for checking in!

Ask Your Hotel for Help

Don't be afraid to ask your hotel for help. Especially if it's a larger hotel in a tourist destination, they often have relationships with all kinds of vendors around the city, and many will hand you printed coupons to use. Maybe you could get a discounted rate on swimming with the stingrays just by booking through the hotel. Might as well ask, those sting rays are dying to meet you.
