I knew my impulse Destiny's Child CD purchases would come in handy someday. Not only are they reuniting (my life is once again complete), but now I can listen to all of the music from my CDs on my phone, tablet or any other device, for free! The little gem that makes all of this possible is called AutoRip, and it gives you a free MP3 version of any CD you purchase, or have purchased from Amazon since 1998. No need to repurchase all of your music!
"What would you say if you bought music CDs from a company 15 years ago, and then 15 years later that company licensed the rights from the record companies to give you the MP3 versions of those CDs ... and then to top it off, did that for you automatically and for free? Well, starting today, it's available to all of our customers – past, present, and future – at no cost," said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com CEO and founder.
Here's how AutoRip works...
Anytime you purchase a CD from Amazon.com that features an AutoRip icon, a free MP3 version of that album will be automatically added to your Amazon Cloud Player library and will be available for your immediate listening pleasure via your Android phone, iPhone, Kindle, Samsung TV, whatever. Competing services like iTunes Match or Google Play are more limited - iTunes Match only works on Apple products or PCs and Google Music is only available on Android devices.
Even though we are still in the dead of winter, AutoRip is a great way to get a head start on spring cleaning by digitizing and organizing your entire music library and putting it all in one, easy-access place. Take a look at 50,000 albums on the list of all eligible AutoRip CDs and note the following exclusions:
