Jane — This is a hula hoop with video, I guess. We always had hula hoops as children, and they were very cheap. I'm not saying don't buy this kit, but realize what it is... a hula hoop for adults with some bells and whistles and a pricey tag.

Maya at BradsDeals — Hi Jane, Actually, adult hula hoops are very different from the ones we used as kids. I have personally taken hoop dance classes here in Chicago and a good friend of mine is an instructor who studies with two of the pioneers in this "new" fitness and dance movement. Adult hoops are much thicker an easier to handle. You're right in saying that the ones sold for kids are very cheap and flimsy, but adult hoops are made from a much more resilient material. I've banged my hoop against walls and thrown it across the floor while trying to do tricks plenty of times and it's never split open the way cheap kiddie ones do. Also, as I mentioned, the fact that they're thicker makes them easier to control and stay on the hips, meaning you get a better core workout because you're not constantly having to stop to pick it up. This is actually a great deal, because one Hooping DVD (check out HoopGirl.com) can cost anywhere from $20-$25 and that doesn't include a travel hoop! I hope this clarifies any confusion!
