MizGrandma — Applied for my card with 8 minutes to spare on the deal. However, it took many hours for approval, as for some reason Amex was concerned mine was a fraudulent application. That meant I had to deal with a particular dept. that only exists in India. It took 3 tries before I got someone on the line I could understand. Then I was able to convince him I really was the person that already had an Amex Gold card. I'll have to do some planning to earn my 10k for the mileage, but it will be worth it. One good thing about the biz card is that they are going to UPS Express mail it so I can start using it right away. Another advantage to AMEX is that I can deposit money in my account prior to a trip & then charge against it as I travel. This is a real advantage for lengthy journeys, & I'll do this as soon as I get the card, as I am leaving in a couple of weeks for extensive dental work in Costa Rica. Those charges will help me earn my miles, even though my costs will be less than a third of what they would be in the U.S. Reminds me, I should use this card to pay regular medical bills here in the U.S. instead of just paying through my checking account--more mileage credit!
