dmsc — I dont know about the blentec but I have a couple of refurbished kitchen appliances and they work just fine. I will say though that I wouldn't buy anything other than a vitamix.

Maria — Yes the refurbished machines sold here, were in fact replaced by Vitamix machines in Starbucks shops.

lizzy — i know this deal is expired but i see similar deals on her pretty often, just for future ref: mine came yesterday. the black base had some minor scratches and wear. the clear noise cover is surprisingly perfectly clear, but does have some odd cracking at the bottom...almost like heat damage? the pitcher that came with mine says "dairy" on it with measurements for tall, venti, etc. the black rubber lid for the pitcher is definitely used and maybe even a little too used for my taste. i expected the unit to look used, and it does. it's also HUGE. if i place it on my countertop i cannot open the noise cover because the cabinets above don't give me enough room. and lastly, what really matters: i've made two smoothies so far (both using recipes from a juice cafe i worked at in college equipped with blendtecs) and neither recipe worked. i had to stop and stir it up three times with each smoothie before it would really begin to blend. once that happened, it worked great, but it did not work the way the blendtecs i am used to using worked. i expected to close the lid, push the button once, and in a few seconds have a perfectly blended smoothie. this was far from the case with my refurb.
