Hey Cardholders: Chase Freedom & Discover It Refreshed Their 5 Percent Bonus Categories!
Each category offers you 5% back on up to $1,500 in purchases between January and March 2015. For the Chase Freedom card, this quarter has grocery stores (not Walmart/Target), Movie Theaters, and Starbucks purchases.
Plus, Chase has unveiled what the general categories for the rest of 2015 will be:
- Q2 (April-June): Restaurants and More
- Q3(July-September): Gas Stations and More
- Q4(October-December): Amazon.com and More
Remember, you must activate the card each quarter to take advantage of the benefits. You can do so here. If you need to sign up for the Chase Freedom card, the current sign-up bonus is $100 cash back, plus a $25 bonus when you add an authorized user, and you'll receive 1% cash back on all other purchases.
For the Discover It card, you'll be receiving a 5% discount on Gas and Ground Transportation. Gas is pretty straightforward, but ground transportation is described as:
Local and suburban commuter transportation including ferries, passenger railways, taxicabs, limousines, rental cars, charter/tour bus lines (not including those purchased through travel agencies or aggregator sites)
The other categories in 2015 are:
- Q2 (April-June): Food and Fun
- Q3(July-September): Summer Spruce Up and More
- Q4(October-December): Holiday Shopping and More
There's no current sign-up bonus for the Discover It card, but you will receive 1% back on all other purchases. You can then use your cash back to pay your statement, directly deposit to your bank account, or even use it as an Amazon.com or iTunes gift card.
