Keurig Mini Plus Brewer Recalled - How to Fix it | Brad's Deals

Keurig is voluntarily recalling 7.2 million MINI Plus Brewers. Here's everything you need you need to know, and what you can do to get your Keurig MINI Plus fixed.

Why the Keurig MINI Plus was recalled

Keurig has received roughly 200 reports of hot water escaping from the MINI Plus during the brewing process. There are at least 90 reports of burn injuries. The hazard description from the Consumer Product Safety Commission says, "Water can overheat during brewing, spray out and burn consumers." Keurig also notes that the issue is most likely to occur when you're brewing multiple cups of coffee back to back.

Is your Keurig MINI Plus affected?

Check the serial number printed on a white sticker on the bottom of your brewer. If it begins with the number "31", then it is subject to the recall.

The recall applies to K10 and B31 units sold by multiple retailers between December 2009 and July 2014, and all colors are affected.

How to fix your recalled Keurig MINI Plus

If your Keurig MINI Plus is subject to the recall, you can call Keurig at (844) 255-7886 to order a free repair kit. The call center is open Monday through Friday from 8am-8pm Eastern Time, and Saturday and Sunday from 8am-3pm, though Keurig notes that the call center will be closed on December 25, 2014 and January 1, 2014.

What to do until your repair kit arrives

You can still use your Keurig - just avoid making more than two cups immediately back to back, and maintain a safe distance (at least arm's length) while brewing.

Help! I've ordered a Keurig MINI Plus as a gift!

Keurig's official company statement notes, "We are working closely with our retail customers to recall all affected product and we are in the process of fulfilling MINI Plus Brewer orders from consumers and retail customers with new product that is not affected by the recall." That makes it sound like orders placed for brewers not yet shipped may not be affected, and you may be hearing from the store you ordered it from. The recall response is likely to vary from one merchant to the next.

If it's already under the Christmas tree, don't worry! You can either return the unopened, unused Keurig to the store for a refund (subject to individual retailers' return policies, of course) or just order the repair kit.
