Spring has sprung! It’s time to come out of that cave of hibernation and revitalize those fitness routines that we so passionately started (and then so quickly stopped) at the beginning of the New Year. But before we resurrect those gym routines, our wardrobes desperately need a Spring refresh.

We’re uncovering the top fitness apparel trends that will refresh your wardrobe with workout clothes that seamlessly blend fashion, function, and sustainability. From vibrant new colors to trendy new silhouettes, we’re exploring the top activewear trends that 2024 has to offer. These styles are sure to breathe fresh air into your wardrobe so you can step into the new Spring season ready to take on anything!

Active Skirts & Dresses

With court activities like pickleball rising in popularity in recent years, expect country-club-inspired style to be all the rage going into Spring and Summer of 2024. This summer season, we’ll be reaching for active dresses and skirts with built-in shorts, like this Old Navy Powersoft Sleeveless Dress or this llululemon Varsity High-Rise Pleated Tennis Skirt

We love how these styles can go straight from the pickleball court to an afternoon lunch without missing a beat. These active dresses and skorts are not only functional, but can be dressed up with a jacket or cardigan as a slightly elevated alternative to the leggings we all know and love.

Wider-Leg Active Pants

Don’t worry, we’re not going to tell you to ditch your beloved leggings! Leggings will continue to be an appropriate staple in activewear wardrobes going into 2024. However, this year we’re seeing wide leg silhouettes making a big impression. Look for multi-functional pieces in luxe fabrics that can transition from work to the gym effortlessly, like these Athleta Endless High Rise Pants. These pants are great because they can be paired with a blazer and flats for work and then transition to workout class directly afterward with a simple switch of the top.

As 90’s style continues to see a resurgence into 2024, we’ll also see styles like cargos popping back onto the scene, like these lululemon Dance Studio Relaxed-Fit Cargos, which can be dressed down for the gym or dressed up with a leather jacket for a brunch with the girls.

Jumpsuits and Rompers

One-piece activewear made quite the impression in 2023, and we expect the trend to continue into 2024. This alo Yoga Airlift Decadent Bodysuit combines a one-shoulder silhouette with a side cutout to give an edgy look to the one-piece trend. For a more budget-friendly option, this PowerSoft Sleeveless 7/8 Bodysuit by Old Navy is a great pick. We love the ballet-inspired scoop back and the fitted design.

To style an activewear jumpsuit or romper, we recommend pairing it with a cropped denim jacket or layering with an oversized sweatshirt to break up the silhouette.

Pastel Colors Reign Supreme, But Bold Hues Are on the Rise

Pastels and beiges have dominated the last few years, and we will continue to see retailers favor these muted shades into 2024. But as we edge into the summer season, expect to see pops of bold color make their way into the mix. The latest spring shades of the uber-popular lululemon Belt Bag feature more of the pastel and neutral shades, but also bring the addition Coral Kiss, a rich orange shade that is perhaps a nod to the Pantone Color of the year, Peach Fuzz.

If your usual neutrals have you feeling slightly drab as we head into the spring season, now is the time to spice up your color choices! We’re seeing pops of neon creeping their way into the activewear scene, like these new Athleta Transcend Stash Tights in the vibrant Iceplant Pink shade. The reader-favorite lululemon Hotty Hot Shorts just debuted in a new muted neon-yellow-green shade called Lichen Lime. We’ll expect neon colors to continue to work their way back into the scene after the current pastel obsession runs its course in 2024.

Retro-Inspired Kicks

As far as sneakers go, we’ll see retro-inspired footwear continue to be all the rage well into 2024. Styles like the Adidas Samba, Nike Waffle Debut Vintage, as well as the chunky New Balance Styles like these unisex 9060 shoes, will continue to have a huge impact on fashion both in and outside of the gym.

For running shoes, we expect brands like Hoka, OnRunning, and Brooks to continue to dominate. We also expect  lululemon’s line of shoes to continue to grow in popularity following their launch in 2022. But we’re also excited for the emergence of viral social media brands like NoBull and Flux Footwear to continue growing in popularity well into 2024.

Sustainability

As more and more consumers begin to shop with sustainability in mind, we’re seeing an increasing number of brands offering more eco-friendly fabrics and more sustainable options. Brands like The Girlfriend Collective and Allbirds use recycled materials to create their activewear, but still deliver products that feel chic and high-end.

We’re also seeing the emergence of many resale programs, like lululemon’s Like New Section, where you can shop gently used second-hand lululemon pieces for a reduced cost. Not only is this a great way to help consumers save money, it also helps to combat the environmental impact of the production of new activewear pieces. Not only can you shop the section, you can also sell your gently used apparel back to lululemon for store credit.
