Merchant Spotlight: Home Depot
Our experts share their 11 favorite tips and tricks for shopping at Home Depot to help you save money and shop like a pro!
Home Depot is one of the most generous, customer-centric stores out there. This is in addition to their vast selection, where you’ll get an extensive range of products for home improvement, gardening, and construction. Couple these two together, and you’ll understand why Home Depot is one of the most successful retailers in the world.
But the perks don’t end at customer service and selection; you can always rest assured you’re getting the most value for your buck. From price matching to rentals and DIY workshops, here are just a few of the reasons why we love our Home Depot.
6 Things We Love About Home Depot
1. Generous Returns:
Did you buy the wrong size moving box? Luckily, most merchandise can be returned within 90 days and refunded to the original form of payment. Did your cherry blossom tree begin to wilt prematurely? That’s OK, because perennials, trees, roses, and shrubs have a one-year guarantee and can be returned for store credit. Pretty cool, huh?
2. Price Match Guarantee:
You’ll always be able to compare prices before making a purchase to ensure you’re getting the best deal. If you’re shopping in-store, just bring in a competitor’s price in an ad, printout, or photo and register for validation with an associate. Just another reason why you can shop with confidence!
3. The Amazing Tool Rental Service:
From tools to trucks, you can rent rather than buy expensive equipment for one-time use. There are a few reasons why you’d want to rent tools as opposed to buying themas opposed to buy tools: One, there’s no need to store or maintain the tools you use. Home Depot’s in-store experts will maintain, test, and inspect everything they rent out. Two, why buy when you only perform a specific task just once or twice a year? If you want to refurbish your hardwood floors, you can rent a floor sander; if you want to pressure wash your driveway, you can rent a pressure washer and return it, never to think about it again until the next go-around.
4. The Wonderful Kids’ Workshops:
On the first Saturday of every month, Home Depot hosts a kids’ workshop. Your young one(s) will have fun learning a diverse set of crafts and skills. This May, for instance, they’ll build a cool Flower-Themed Picture Frame. It’s different each month.
5. Free Lumber Cuts:
I was on a short-lived carpentry kick a few years back and wanted to make my own American flag-themed cutting board. Thing was, I didn’t have a circular saw to cut the individual pieces necessary to build it. Home Depot came to the rescue and I was able to hang out there for a while, testing measurements and sawing away. It was a great time and super-convenient, and I still have my cutting board.
6. Same-Day Delivery:
Don’t you just hate stores that lag on their shipping? Home Depot doesn’t. You get same-day and next-day delivery on almost everything if you order by 4 p.m.
Top 5 Shopping Tips
1. Shop by “Percentage Off”:
This is one of my personal favorites. Whenever I want to see extreme discounts within a particular department, I narrow the page to display items that are at least 40% off or more (using furniture as an example). You can shop by discount percentage on the left of the page under ‘Price.’
2. Use Secret Coupons:
Well, they’re not really secret, but they’re sure hard to find. At any given time you’ll be able to use a Home Depot coupon code for 10%-20% off, depending on the department. Right now, for example, until the end of April you can get 15% off wallpapers. By the time you read this this code will have expired, but the codes rotate in and out all the time.
3. Buy Bulk for Big Projects:
Lumber, roofing, pavers, and more. When you shop bulk pricing, Home Depot displays the order threshold you need to meet to get the discount-per-unit.
4. Sign Up for Emails for a Quick $5:
Are you one to not care about promos hitting your inbox? Me neither. In my opinion the slight bombardment is worth it, especially if you get $5 out of it. Home Depot will give you $5 off orders of $50 immediately just by signing up for email promos.
5. Check the Special Buy of the Day:
These are online-only deals that change daily. Most items ship free. One day it might be kids’ playsets, grills, and hot tubs; another day it might be bedroom furniture, kitchenware, and gardening deals.
