May has always been my favorite month. Being from the Midwest, I’ve always thought of it as the Goldilocks of all months. If June and July were a trip around the world, May would be the first step you take off the plane.

For the savvy shopper, it’s also a great time to score some really good deals. Here’s a glimpse into what the experts at Brad’s Deals have on their radar:

All Things Star Wars

May the 4th be with you. With 5/4 landing on a Saturday this year, what better way to celebrate than to host a Star Wars themed party? Amazon has no shortage of party decor to kick things off!

Regardless of what your plans are, be sure to equip yourself with Star Wars collectibles, toys, clothing, and more at the Disney Store.

Mattresses

May is arguably the best time of year to buy a mattress.Three-day weekends have traditionally been a popular time for mattress sales, and Memorial Day is sure to have some of the best deals. While it’s always a good idea to try out mattresses in person, there’s a good chance you’ll find better prices online.

Going off stats from the past few years, we expect to see savings of up to 70% on mattresses at stores like Macy’s, Wayfair, and JCPenney.

Patio Furniture

If you are looking to furnish your patio this year, May is a good time to start. You’ll have a great selection, and prices will be lower than if you wait till you’re in the thick of summer.

Last year we saw Wayfair offer savings of up to 60% on lawn furniture during Memorial Day weekend. Home Depot, Aosom, and Lowe’s also hosted worthwhile Memorial Day savings on patio sets.

Alternative Gifts for Mom

While flowers and brunch are a wonderful way to celebrate mom, they aren’t the only options.

Anthropologie is a personal favorite, and they have an easy-to-navigate Mother’s Day gift tab. Pick some items, then mosey over to the sale section to see if you can’t find something you like equally at a lower price.

We also love the selection of beauty gift sets available at Macy’s. Be sure to check back in at Brad’s Deals to see when these sets go on sale.

Grills

Memorial Day weekend is a great time to shop for a grill. Retailers often start grilling season off with some hefty discounts. Prices will likely go up from there. You might get some deals around the Fourth of July, but you’ll likely have to wait till Labor Day to see substantial savings again. If you're looking to invest in a quality grill for your home, Home Depot is a best bet. For portable grills under $50, we suggest doing some comparison shopping at Amazon and Walmart.

Spring Apparel

While stores like Lands’ End have great swimsuit sales going on year-round, you’ll be paying higher prices at most retailers for swimwear this time of year.

Summer styles are starting to flood the racks, so May is a good time to zero in on the apparel and accessories that arrived in March and April. With savings of up to 95%, the Nordstrom Rack clearance section is a super place to start the hunt.

Appliances

Long holiday weekends are an excellent time to shop for both large and small appliances. Home Depot and Lowe’s have a wide selection of the best brands at competitive prices.

Are you a Costco or Sam’s Club member? If so, both offer free shipping and installation of the appliances you buy online. Plus, they won’t charge extra to haul-away your old appliances.

Air Conditioners

Don’t wait till you’re sweating bullets to replace or upgrade your AC. Come summer, prices will shoot up till September rolls around. Not to mention the frenzy of trying to find one when the temperature hits 100 degrees Fahrenheit!

Electronics Express is one of our favorite spots to shop for window air conditioners and portable units.

Sunscreen & Insect Repellent

“If I could only offer you one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proven by scientists…”

Enough said. Amazon has you covered.

And while you are enjoying the nice weather, don’t get eaten alive. Again, Amazon has you covered for insect repellents.
