We’ve been sorting through the thousands of Prime Day deals for the past seven years. Our deal experts know a thing or two about making the most of this sale. We spoke with four of them about their favorite tips for shopping the Prime Day sale to get the best deals, sort through the clutter, and avoid overspending.

Note that at the time of posting this article, the availability of Prime Day deals was accurate, but due to high shopping behaviors during this event, this can and will change often. We’ll do our best to keep you up to date.

Pro Tip 1: Earn $20 in Amazon Credits

We believe Amazon is working hard to prove the worth of an annual Prime membership. This year they’re offering credits for utilizing some Prime membership perks to show value in the membership. They’re also offering credits for shopping for everyday essentials.

Our tech expert Mike Ahene will be stacking his credits this year.

“Stack the credits! I'm stacking Amazon's Prime Day lead-in credit promotions. Follow these steps to get $20 in Amazon credits. If you can't find a deal on what you want, you have the credits to make a great deal yourself."

  1. Get a $5 credit for purchasing a $50 Amazon Gift Card through 7/10. You can only redeem once per Prime account, but you can use the whole thing during Prime Days.

  2. Add another $15 credit for using Amazon Photos and uploading your first photo by 7/7. You must use your credit on a Prime Day purchase of $30 or more.

Pro Tip 2: Review Related Products

If the search feature is still offering up too many products, our lead Amazon editor Marisa Lang suggests utilizing the Related Products feature.

“I scan the "products related to the item" section as a starting point for finding the best price. I recently saw a pack of two basketball hoops for less than the price of the one single hoop I was looking at, just by scanning the Related Products section!”

Pro Tip 3: Make a List (and stick to it!)

Our content editor Tom Kray recommends creating a list and not straying from it.

“Before Prime Day, make a list of things you'd like to find deals on, whether that's specific products or just general categories. This will help direct your search when literally thousands of different products go on sale. By sticking to a list, you’re less likely to shop for things you don’t need and more likely to shop smart for the best deal possible.”

Tom also points out that sales change and deals are added all the time throughout Prime Day. Once you’ve made your list, you’ll want to check often.

Pro Tip 4: Shop Around

A great tip from our Deputy Editor Julie Verslues is to shop all the Prime Day alternatives at competing retailers to get the best prices on everything. The best part about shopping the rival sales? No membership or annual subscription necessary!

Bonus Tip: Let technology do the work

If you’d rather not have your face glued to a screen all day, we can help! Set up a deal alert for any items you’re shopping for on Prime Day. You’ll receive an email from us if anyone on our team posts a great deal for that item.

You can also download our free app and take all the best Amazon deals with you wherever you go. Check the app throughout the day and rest easy knowing we already sorted through all the junk for you.

Finally, the number of deals included in the Prime Day sale can be overwhelming. Utilize Amazon’s site features like the Prime Day Deal checkbox in search results, Lightning Deals landing pages, and the ‘Watch Deal’ feature to track upcoming discounts.
