Chase Sapphire Preferred – Best for travel and dining.

While the Chase Sapphire Reserve card ultimately earns more rewards (triple points for dining and travel), it comes with a $550 annual fee. If you want a cheaper card with similar rewards, check out the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. With a $95 annual fee, this card offers double Ultimate Rewards points for travel and dining spend. I’ve used these points to fly all around the globe in business class, and to stay at some of the best hotels on planet. At a 2.2 cents per point valuation, that’s like 4.4% back on every dollar spent on travel and dining with the card.

Amazon Prime credit card

Amazon Prime Card – Best for Amazon purchases.

Amazon is a massive online retailer which accounts for many folks’ daily spend on books, gifts, household goods, and even groceries! The Amazon Prime Card, available only to Amazon Prime members, offers 5% back on every purchase on That’s a massive savings for anyone who’s a regular Amazon shopper!

Citi Costco Anywhere Visa credit card

Costco Anywhere Visa Card – Best for gas.

The Costco Anywhere Visa Card is a relatively new credit card, which was introduced after Amex backed out as Costco’s exclusive credit card partner. Cardmembers earn 4% cash back on the first $7,000 per year on gasoline purchases. That’s in addition to 3% cash back on restaurant and travel purchases, and 2% cash back on Costco purchases!


Citi Double Cash – Best for everything else.

For everything else, the Citi Double Cash card is your card for everyday spending. You’ll earn 2% cash back on every purchase. This card gets our seal of approval, both for the size of the return on spending, and for encouraging healthy spending habits. There’s no annual fee.
